No one wants a limp-leafed salad. Luckily, it’s easy to crisp up heads of lettuce or whole stalks of celery by rehydrating them! Even grocery stores use this technique to revive produce before putting it on sale. It’s quick, effective, and basically free.
Ingredients:
Lettuce head or stalky vegetable
Water
Tools:
Shallow or tall bowl that can hold vegetable upright
Knife
Cutting Board
Instructions:
Using a knife, trim the base of the vegetable head. The head should still be held together and intact.
Place the vegetable upright in a bowl of cool water. Let sit for an hour or until rehydrated. Vegetables can also be stored in the fridge this way.
Dry off and enjoy!
Tip: Many other vegetables can be soaked in water and refrigerated to restore crispness. Chopped or baby carrots are particularly yummy when stored this way.
